BIOGRAPHY

Julien Kanor was Born in Pointe-à-Pitre May 7, 1986 and is French with Guadeloupe and Martinique origins. Whilst growing up he learned local dances Zouk and Compas in family celebrations.

During high school, he started salsa that he perfected during a stay in Cuba when he was 18. At the age of 19 arrived in France (Bordeaux) to pass his AP and continue his studies. During the course of his studies he sees his sister taking dance classes and starts taking an interest to Hip Hop. He spends his leisure time embarking on different dance courses, from Hip Hop to Afro Jazz Street. He joined a Hip Hop company called “Soul Project” directed by Thomas Guerin, with whom he toured the beaches of Bordeaux.

After 2 years of discovering Hip Hop, he wants to learn more and to make dance more than a passion, but his job. He decides to go in the city where Hip Hop started, New York where he joins the world renowned “Broadway Dance Center’ as an international student.

He trained intensively for 2 years where he learns various dance styles: classical, jazz, contemporary, house dance, Latin, tap, African dance (African dance, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian and Haitian dance). Being a perfectionist, he enhances his Hip Hop style, finding new and original ways to move, challenge his body and creating his unique movement repertoire. Which keeps Hip Hop his preferred style.

He trained with the greatest choreographers in Hip Hop. The
legendary Buddha Stretch, the number one Hip Hop choreographer in the world who has worked with Will Smith, Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson to name a few. Brian Green one of the pioneers of Hip Hop and House Dance who has worked with Mya. Jermaine Brown who choreograph for Jennifer Lopez.

Various castings open doors for him, leading to several dance
companies: “Mamache” a west African dance company directed by Nathalie Dispagne, “Feliciano The Movement” a Hip Hop company run by Angel Feliciano and Modern, Haitian dance company “Kanu Dance Theater” led by Jessica St Vil-Ulysses.

He has performed several times at Alvin Ailey and was fortunate enough to be asked for a features role in a dancer film, which is now used at ‘The New York Film academy’

Julien has been given the opportunity to share his wonderful skills and talent in many events in New York such as Summer Stage, NYC Dance Parade, Bushwick Festival, Lincoln Center and destiny leads him to perform and choreograph for a famous Polish artist, “Junior” for his concerts and also music videos.

Julien is involved in many Hip Hop and House dance battles.

He is winner of the ‘Urban Spirit Battle’ in Baie Mahault (Guadeloupe) and has competed in many battles, such as SDK UK and Urban Renewal NYC to name a few. He’s also judged for ‘BBD’ battle in Petit Bourg (Guadeloupe) and has appeared on television at the number one news channel in Guadeloupe as well as Channel 10, Fox News, CBS News and Channel 4.

No real explanations necessary, the name says it all. This march, Dancekool is bringing you another event which focuses on performing arts, a night of passion, talents and plain old fun!

On top of Dancekool’s instructors doing their thing, students having fun on stage; this time we’ve also got 4 crews led by Masaki, Akio, Hideboo and Karen – hand picked top 5 best students competing against each other in a friendly environment, showing off their 5 weeks hard work!  Make sure you come to support these dedicated up coming talents and scream for your favorite crew!

We also have the lovely Kimie from Lost and Found,  her amazing vocals collaborating live with Sydney’s best underground dancers.

Last but certainly not least – we have our home boys Bj (Billy kid) and his band The 7Soulz jamming with the incredible beat boxer from Dancekool’s last hyped up show -  Genesis.

What’s more? From door opens to between acts to after everything is over, we make sure you’ll all be able to get down to the best tunes in town – old skool hip hop / r&b by  our regular and renown Dj Naiki and funk/disco by the awesome Dj Sage.

DANCEHALL

The Dancehall or Ragga sound as it is also known can be
identified mainly by digitized rhythms, sounds and strong bass
beats. Just like the music genre, the dance style is energetic,
powerful and raw whilst maintaining fluidity and control.

Nadiah’s unique style of Dancehall is blended with a hint of afro
flava and adapts a variety of street dance moves. Her workshop
will start off with drills and foundational moves to introduce
you to the style. If you are not sweating yet or your legs aren’t
burning by then, be prepared for Nadiah’s athletic higha level-
whining-heart pumping-bombastic routine! At the end of Nadiah’s
workshop, unlike many others, you’ll be a part of a liberating dance
experience where you’ll be given the rare opportunity to express
yourself with no rules and no boundaries!

Nadiah is a Brisbane based professional dancer and teacher and loves
sharing her passion for dance with others. When she is performing,
Nadiah aspires to evoke emotions and convey a message, whatever
it may be, to the audience through her physical expression with the
intention to move and/or inspire those watching.

Nadiah’s career highlights include backup dancing for
the Kanye West at Splendour in the Grass 2011, performing at
the Island Vibes Festival 2011 and Woodford Folk Festival 2011/
2012, performing with Indigenous Hip Hop Projects (Melbourne) at
Share the Spirit Festival 2012, co-choreographing and making an
appearance as the lead dancer in Enoch’s music video clip “If You
Like to Party”, performing as a principal dancer in the
of Grease at QPAC, performing and conducting dance workshops at
Australia Zoo for Bindi Irwin’s Rock & Roll 13th Birthday Celebration
and many more.

Dancehall – my love – I’m back!
Dancehall is 1 of my 1st loves in dance, concentrating on this style from 2004 for 3-4 yrs, hanging with the Japanese dancehall queens, meeting crazy dancehall lovers from Spain – Sweden and of course the people from the caribeans during my stay in NYC and eventually traveling to Jamaica.

My love for this dance never faded even when I was expanding and learning many different styles from 2008. However the dancehall fiyah has definitely reignited in the last year, bursting with energy!

Thanks to all those with an incredible open mind and joined me for the performance course in the last few weeks and those who enjoyed all the previous dancehall workshops. And of course those who contacted me personally.

I’m now doing a regular weekly class on Sun 3-4pm! Come if you love dancehall/reaggae music, come if you love to dance, come if you love to pop your booty or whine to your fav song, DEF come if you want a WoRkOuT!! Hope to c you all hot and sweaty every Sunday!!

Megu from Hottie Cat

In 2001 Hottie Cat was made by Megu and Chie who are Reggae dancers in Japan. They appear in a lot of TV programs and DVDs in Japan such as super chample, PV of BOYKEN, Southern All Stars, RYO the Skywalker.

They often go to Jamaica to learn real dance and music.
Megu will be happy to share her knowledge and skill with everyone!!

a bit about ANDEE:-

Andee aka Wacckedee started dancing and performing at the age of 7 and has been trained in hip hop, street jazz, jazz funk and waacking by internationally renown pioneers and dance legend such as Tyrone, Princesses lockeroo, Princess 1G.

Andee has conducted numerous workshops and judged many dance battles/competitions since 2008. He has also entered any dance competitions including Singapore Dance Delight 2010 (Finalist), Live it up without light up 2010 hip hop dance competition (champion) and King of Hits Queen of Beats 2011 waacking battle judged by Tyrone (top 4). He’s also recently choreographed for Bossini’s “Be happy” dance video with local celebrity Kelly Poon.

Dancekool Parramatta will be closed from 19th December 2011 and Re-opens on the 6th of January 2012.
